Interning with Turnstone
Hi, my name is Bailey Canfield and I am currently a senior at Carroll High School. I started my internship with the Sports and Recreation Department in January, and I will be here through May! A few things about me are that I love to spend time with family and friends, I really enjoy being around kids and babysitting in my free time, I was a cheerleader for 7 years, and I am a National Honor Society member.
As a senior this year I was given the opportunity to go to school for half days and intern for the other half. When looking for internship opportunities I was initially looking for facilities where I would be able to shadow therapy, as I am interested in seeing OT. I was very excited to see that Turnstone accepted high school interns because I have heard many great things about all the sports, activities, and services Turnstone has. I remember the first time I heard about Turnstone was through my high school American Sign Language teacher, she would tell the class about the events held here and when learning about different disabilities she would tell us about different adaptive sports Turnstone has. I thought it would be a great experience to intern here to gain exposure to all Turnstone has to offer, and I am looking forward to learning more about adaptive sports!
Throughout high school figuring out what I wanted to do as a career was my biggest struggle because of how many options there are. I have known I wanted to work in the healthcare field for a while because I am very passionate about being able to help others, and I want to be able to make a difference in other’s lives. When considering options, I learned about occupational therapy, I got the opportunity to shadow someone in this profession and it has stuck with me ever since. I hope to become a pediatric occupational therapist and this coming fall I will be attending Huntington University, and I plan to be a part of their Occupational Therapy Assistant program!
